Tax Back

Hi there. I have claimed for a tax back from my previous employer because I just checked my official records and I found out that there were months that I was taxed from my income twice. My previous boss told me that the tax was already remitted to the government and there’s no chance that the company would still give it to me. Please help me. What should I do with this problem? Would I still receive my tax back either from my boss or from the government? Thanks for any suggestions extended to me.
